Featured Plant Of The Week
~ Hydrangeas ~

Did you know there are over 70 species of Hydrangeas?

One of the most common plant care questions we receive is:

HOW DO I PRUNE THES D*** HYDRANGEAS?
We got you! (step by step video below)

Hydrangea macrophylla – Big Leaf, Mophead = Shape before August 1st then DO NOT PRUNE.  In spring, remove dead, hollow stalks, trim off old blossoms only.  Leave top buds on stalks.

Hydrangea paniculata – Panicle or cone type = Prune late winter or early spring.  Cut 1/3 off down to leaf nodes.
Hydrangea arborescens – Smooth leaf = Trim in spring, cutting down to 8″ from the ground.
Hydrangea quercifolia – Oak leaf = DO NOT TRIM except for health of the plant.
Hydrangea serrata – Mountain = Shape before August 1st then DO NOT PRUNE.  In spring, remove old blossoms only.

Hydrangea petiolaris – Climbing = DO NOT TRIM except for health of the plant.

At Broccolo Garden Center we carry over 30 different options of sizes and species.
