| Yes it can be treated and the key is to catch them in the act. They are spreading fast with multiple generations in one season. Believe it or not, these caterpillars can overwinter in this stage to temperatures below zero.

Fall Cleanup Dos & Don’ts
Many people have different ideas of what a fall clean up looks like. Rather than having things clean and neat, resist the urge and think ‘a little mess is best’. Many birds, critters and insects will thank you for it! Watch the interview below to learn more about why you should leave the leaves in your garden.
|
|
|
- Don’t cut back your plants.
- Do leave perennials in place. The birds love the seeds and bees like to hide out in stems.
- Don’t remove all of your leaves.
- Do mulch them into your lawn for organic matter or rake into garden beds. Bees, butterflies and other insects overwinter within them and find warmth and protection.
- Don’t remove all of your trimmings.
- Do create a brush pile for a protective escape for birds, insects and other critters.
- Don’t use any chemicals in late fall.
- Do fertilize your lawn with a winterizer, at this late time in the season, there is no need for any other treatments.
- Do feel free to relax and enjoy the glory of the fall season, less is more when it comes to fall clean up!
