The Broccolo IPM Tree & Shrub Care Program includes:
Regular inspections of all landscape plants.
Treatment of pest problems carefully timed for maximum control and minimum use of pesticides.
Encourage and identify populations of “good bugs.”
Plants prone to aphids, mites, and scale will be sprayed with horticultural oil early in the Spring to smother the eggs and adults of those pests.
Broccolo Tree and Shrub Care can protect your expensive and cherished plants.
By using a method known as “Integrated pest management” (IPM) we combine chemical treatments, cultural practices, and biological controls to manage pests to an acceptable level that will not damage to plants.
Our goal is to monitor pest outbreaks before the populations get out of control. Using Cornell Cooperative Extension growing-degree data, we proactively monitor insect activity and target treatments precisely.
Tree Pruning
Selective hand pruning encourages the growth of healthy, natural plants by removing dead or diseased foliage. It improves the appearance and effectiveness of the plant, whether it was chosen for shade or beauty.
Pruning is an art form, and Broccolo takes pride in our extensive technical knowledge that helps us to determine:
Tree Aeration / Excavation
One of our most useful technologies is a pneumatic aerator. The pneumatic aerator works by injecting a jet of air under high pressure into the soil to break up heavy, compacted clay and help air or nutrients to reach plant roots.
Aerating trees efficiently loosens the soil in preparation for creating a new bed or transplanting and it allows water to penetrate into compacted clay soils.
Trees that are planted too deeply and are struggling for air are excavated.
Emerald Ash Borer
The Emerald Ash Borer, or EAB (Agrilus planipennis) has been positively identified in many areas of Rochester. It is a small, metallic-green, wood-boring beetle and deadly to emerald ash trees, but it is preventable, and not every ash tree is infested.
It is important that homeowners not buy products until speaking to a certified arborist. This will not only save time and money, but it will save your trees. A certified arborist fully understands the bug; the specific tree it is affecting, regulations and quarantines, and treatment options.
Broccolo Tree and Lawn Care’s Ash Tree treatment program has been able to save many of Rochester’s Ash Trees. Call today for a free estimate for your trees.
